FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

 

Are campuses completely closed?

Southern University campues continue to operate remotely and with limited, essential staff on its campues. In accordance with the proclamation executed by Gov. John Bel Edwards on March 23, campuses are closed to the general public.

 

Are students being forced to vacate residential halls?

No. Students are encouraged to move back to their homes or other locations in hopes of social distancing, a recommendation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

 

Will food still be provided for students and employees?

Yes. Meals will be available for pick up or drop off, depending on the respective campuses. 

 

Is it safe to work and stay on campus?

Yes. Facilities Services have increased cleaning and sanitization of areas around all campuses. 

 

Will any in-person classes or events be held for the remainder of the semester?

No. All campuses of the Southern University System have cancelled in-person classes and events that attract 50 or more people. The schedule for each campus is:

 

Southern University Baton Rouge

Classes will be cancelled March 16-21.

Spring Break will now be held on March 23-27.

Classes will resume remotely on March 30.

Classes will continue remotely for the remainder of the Spring semester.

Students residing on campus are encouraged to return home.

 

Southern University at New Orleans

All in-person classes were suspended today at noon. Classes will continue suspension tomorrow, March 13.

Spring Break has been rescheduled for the week of March 16.

Classes will resume remotely on March 23.

Classes will continue remotely for the remainder of the Spring semester.

 

Southern University Shreveport

No in-person classes will be held the week of March 16. However, alternative instruction will be made available for students.

Spring Break will be held March 23-27.

Classes will resume remotely on March 30.

 

Southern University Law Center

Classes will be cancelled March 16- 22

On March 23, courses will move to a hybrid, distance learning, online, or remote format.

Critical courses, externships, and any electives that may require physical interaction will resume as scheduled until further communication has been released from state and local health agencies. 

 

Southern University Agricultural and Research Center

All parish, regional, and state level programming is suspended until further notice.  Extension/Outreach staff is to report to their respective normal duty stations.

 

How will classes be delivered?

Instructors will reach out to their students before the start of their respective campus' remote class scheduled. Please continue to check official campus emails for details. 

 

What if I don't have Internet or a personal computer to continue my classes?

Students are asked to let their instructors know their limitations so situations can be assessed properly.

 

Are there any confirmed cases of coronavirus on any Southern University campus?
