"Professor Wilson brings not only her expertise in math into her classroom, but she pours the practical aspect of technology that she received from the corporate arena at IBM. Perhaps, her strongest benefit to students are her innovative ideas about growing students," said Joslin Pickens, who nominated Wilson.

A fellow faculty member, Pickens says, "She (Wilson) can frequently be found at the public library on weekends or in her office in the evenings giving extra help and tutoring students to guarantee that they grow in math. Recently, she authored a Math camp to prepare students (and prospective) students for college math.

Wilson's use of humor and friendly demure make Math fun for our students. She goes above and beyond daily."

This month's Above and Beyond Award winner has been employed at SUSLA for 12 years. She is a past SUSLA "Jaguar of the Month."

"Teaching is one of my greatest rewards. I enjoy what I do everyday. Teaching is my passion. Thank you for selecting me for this honor," said Wilson.

The "Above and Beyond" Award was established to help inspire and motivate SU employees to reach their maximum performance. One award is presented at the SU Board of Supervisors meetings each month.

Recipients of the award are nominated by their peers. The top three nominations are forwarded to the Board of Supervisors chair and vice chair for selection.

Nominations are due two weeks prior to all Board of Supervisors Meetings. Contact Maya Riley Banks at maya_banks@sus.edu or Michael Wells, at michael_wells@sus.edu or call 225-771-4600, if you have questions or need additional information.
