SU System hires search firm for next chancellor

The Southern University System (SUS) has contracted DHR, the fifth largest retained executive search firm in the nation, to assist in the search for its next chancellor of the Baton Rouge campus.

The SUS search committee is being conducted by a team comprised of board members, representatives from the business and community sectors, faculty, staff, and a student member. The Southern University, Baton Rouge (SUBR) chancellor will be appointed by June 30, 2011. DHR representatives are scheduled to begin meeting with the search committee and other university representatives this week.

"The positive direction of which our System is heading makes the chancellor of SUBR an attractive opportunity for the right candidate," said SU System President Ronald Mason Jr. "We remain diligent in our careful and thorough search for the ideal chancellor to take the Baton Rouge campus to the next level."

DHR currently has more than 50 offices worldwide and are experienced professionals who have been retained by Fortune 1000, as well as, prominent venture firms and early-stage companies. DHR Consultants Robert Clayton and Merritt J. Norvell will be working with the search committee to recommend the top candidates for chancellor.

"Our committee is moving forward with all deliberate speed in our quest to find SUBR's new leader," said Pat Magee, co-chair of the SUBR Chancellor search.

"As evidenced by our engagement with DHR, we are leaving no stone unturned in our effort."
