SU names new director of small business development center

Will M. Campbell Jr., former Liberty Bank regional manager for the Baton Rouge and Opelousas region, has been named the new director of Southern University's Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC).

Campbell says the Development Center will be increasing its effort to meet the needs of small businesses in East Baton Rouge, Ascension, East Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana Parishes.

"We want to help small businesses owners grow their business, access capital, manage their business and create jobs," said Campbell. "We want to make sure the community understands that we are here to help them. We are really passionate about helping the community and this will be a great partnership with Southern University."

The center, at 4826 Jamestown Avenue, Suite 1, provides low- or no-cost guidance and training for small business owners and potential owners through confidential counseling, group training, training seminars, assistance in creating business plans and providing business information resources. The LSBDC operates from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Campbell, in addition to serving as the regional manager of Liberty Bank, has served as the vice president and Banking Center Manager at Bank One, was the owner and president of Genesis Enterprises of Baton Rouge, LLC, and a branch manager of Wells Fargo Financial.

The Lucedale, Mississippi native is a captain in the United States Army Reserve. He earned a bachelor of science in management and military science from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.
