SUMA and Nu Gamma Omega Chapter AKA Sorority Presents Verb, Vittles, and Vibes December 13, 2018, 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tribute to the Black Arts Movement 1965-1975 THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED This event is a tribute to the Black Arts Movement. The time period of 1965-75...the Black Power Movement impacted the poetry, music, art, and literature of Black people. The artists reflected the political climate of that time. Led by Imamu Amiri Baraka (AKA Leroy Jones) the movement began in the New York/New Jersey area and represented the pride in blackness of that era. Verb..think of Nikki Giovanni, James Baldwin, Maya Angelou...Vibes think..Thelonius Monk, John Coltrane, Gil Scott-Heron. Of course food (Vittles )is an important aspect of Black culture during every time period.
