Southern University System Mourns the Loss of State Representative Avon Honey - Friday, February 12, 2010
The Southern University System family mourns the loss of Louisiana State Representative Avon Honey. Honey was both a Southern University alumnus and long-time employee.
"Representative Honey’s untimely death is a tragic loss for the Southern University System family, East Baton Rouge Parish and the entire State of Louisiana.” said Interim President, Dr. Kassie Freeman. "We are all going to miss such a truly respected friend and leader. I join the Board of Supervisors and the entire Southern University System family in extending my heartfelt condolences to his wife Linda and family. My prayers will certainly be with them in the days and weeks to come.”
Representative Honey was known throughout the Southern University System as a visionary leader and extraordinary public servant. He was a true advocate for the Southern University System and higher education. Honey always put the needs of District 63 first, and his outstanding legacy will forever live on throughout the North Baton Rouge community.
Representative Honey’s legislative district, District 63, encompassed three of the Southern University System’s campuses – Southern University at Baton Rouge; Southern University Law Center; and Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center.
