SUS President/Chancellor Search Committee announces six applicants

The Southern University System (SUS) Board of Supervisors' President/Chancellor Search Committee today announced applicants for the position of president/chancellor.
Albert Sam, M.D., chairman of the 15-member search team, reported that the following candidates have formally applied to become SUS president/chancellor, after an initial screening of persons who had expressed an interest in the position:
Ray Belton, chancellor, Southern University Shreveport (SUSLA), a graduate of SUSLA and Southern University Baton Rouge. He has a master of arts in counseling from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a doctor of philosophy in educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
Barrett Hatches, president and CEO, Chicago Family Health Center and a former energy executive, received his undergraduate degree in political science from Jackson State University, a M.A. in management from Webster University, and a Ph.D. in urban higher education from Jackson State University.
Gilbert Rochon, former president and professor at Tuskegee University, has a bachelor's degree from Xavier University of Louisiana, a master of public health from Yale University School of Medicine, and a doctorate from the Department of Urban Studies and Planning, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Ivory Toldson, deputy director, White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, U.S. Department of Education, Washington, DC, has a bachelorís degree in psychology from Louisiana State University, a M.Ed. in counselor education from The Pennsylvania State University, and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Temple University.
Victor Ukpolo, chancellor Southern University New Orleans, has a bachelorís degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and an M.A. and a Ph.D. from The American University in Washington, DC.
Earl Yarbrough Sr., former president, Savannah State University, has a B.A. from Wichita State University, a M.A. in industrial studies from California State University at Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. from Iowa State University.
"After the search committee interviews the six applicants, we hope to select three finalists to submit to the SU Board of Supervisors," said Sam.
The search committee, at its next meeting, May 28, 2015, will interview the applicants.
