SU, Genesis Energy create $100,000 scholarship fund - Wednesday, September 3, 2014
The Southern University System Foundation and the SUBR College of Business and College of Engineering and Computer Science recently partnered with Genesis Energy to create a $100,000 scholarship fund for SU students. The scholarship seeks to encourage students to explore opportunities in their chosen fields of study and to develop a relationship with Genesis Energy. Five students from the Southern University College of Business are among this year's recipients.

Dean of the College of Business Donald R. Andrews says, "Scholarship support to our students in the College of Business by Genesis Energy L.P. is a major vote of confidence in our program to develop the human resources needed for building future business opportunities."

"The Genesis Energy investment was the groundbreaker for the WISE [Workforce Innovation for a Stronger Economy Fund] partnership," said Southern University System President Ronald Mason Jr.

The WISE plan would set aside 80 percent of matching funding for workforce development. Every public college or university in the state of Louisiana would get a shot to collect a share of the money depending on how many graduates they produce in high-demand fields such as computer science and engineering. In order to draw down the funds, schools would have to come up with a 20 percent match in private investments.

"On behalf of everyone at Genesis Energy, we offer our congratulations to the 2014-2015 Genesis Energy Scholarship recipients,"said Genesis Energy public and government affairs specialist Drew Ratcliff.

Genesis Energy LP is a diversified midstream energy master limited partnership headquartered in Houston, Texas. Genesis operations include pipeline transportation, refinery services, and supply and logistics. Genesis operations are primarily located in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and the Gulf of Mexico.
