SUSLA receives $254,635 in grants from La. Board of Regents - Wednesday, April 02, 2014


Several Southern University Shreveport faculty and staff members have been awarded 2013-14 Louisiana Board of Regents Enhancement for Two-Year Institutions grants.

Receiving the awards totaling $254,635 are:

     JoAnn Brown, division chair, Division of Allied Health - $51,150
     Establishment of Health Care Simulation Lab Multi Team Approach

     Iris Champion, associate professor, Division of Computer Science and Technology - $88,000
     New Age Learning:  Increasing Student Success in College-Level Math Courses through Virtual
     Student Accessibility


     Jimmy Daniel, associate professor, Department of Computer Science - $35,000
     Re-Shaping Learning for Student Success in a Virtual Class via Faculty Training in Online
     Pedagogy and MOODLE Technology


     Tuesday Williams, director, Career Services and Retention Coordinator, Student Success Center - $25,000
     Strengthen First Generation Employability through Peer Advisement

     Stephanie Graham, pre-award coordinator, Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs - $55,485
     Linking Competencies and Curricula to Workforce Needs

The Enhancement for Two-Year Institution Grant Program is a subprogram of the Board of Regents' Office of Sponsored Programs Enhancement Program. The Enhancement Program has three competitive components: Traditional Enhancement, Undergraduate Enhancement, and Enhancement for Two-Year Institutions. The goal of these subprograms is to improve the research and educational infrastructure at all Louisiana institutions and in all disciplines. An additional one-time subprogram, the Post-Katrina Support Fund Initiative, identified research and educational priorities for intensive support immediately following the hurricanes of 2005.

The Enhancement Program for Two-Year Institutions, which awarded the SUSLA grants, was recently created to meet the needs of Louisiana's community college system. This subprogram shares the same objectives as Traditional and Undergraduate Enhancement, but is limited to two-year community colleges and does not have discipline eligibility rotations.
